Shoulder shaping and proportion
Shoulder pads sit beneath the fabric to define the upper outline. A small amount of shaping can make a clean bodice feel tailored; a stronger pad produces a wider, more graphic line. The sleeve, neckline and fabric determine how visible that structure becomes.
Compare the shoulder line with the waist and skirt. A defined upper frame can balance a fitted silhouette or contrast with a softer skirt. For another way to add upper-body volume, compare puff-sleeve wedding dresses.
The layer carrying the shape
On Ferran, the base is a clean strapless satin column. A separate Chantilly lace bolero introduces long sleeves, a high illusion neckline and defined shoulder pads; removing it changes the upper frame. This is a useful case for comparing the padded layer with convertible bridal looks. For volume created by fabric rather than padding, see puff-sleeve styles.
