A small extension of the skirt
A sweep train trails only a short distance beyond the hem. It can finish a close gown without changing the dress into a broad rear silhouette. The distinction is clearest from behind, where fabric and any separate outer layer also affect the view.
Two close-fitting examples
Porta lets its fitted satin skirt ease into a subtle sweep train. Cascade finishes a narrow sheath with a short rear extension beneath an optional feathered cape. Porta’s draped satin and high slit keep the front active; Cascade’s cape adds texture above a much quieter base.
A court train reaches farther behind the skirt. If a sweep train suits the venue, compare the gown with and without its optional outer pieces at a fitting; they may change its visual scale more than the short train does.
