High-neck wedding dresses: coverage with distinct surfaces
A high neckline raises the upper edge toward the neck. That coverage may be solid and smooth, transparent and embroidered, or created by a separate layer. The height alone does not tell the whole story of sleeves or back exposure.
Satin and sheer lace
Ricci uses satin in a high halter that loops at the neck and opens to a low back. Diagonal and horizontal ruching shape its bodice above a fitted mermaid skirt. In Bernarda, a raised sheer neckline carries botanical embroidery across a transparent lace upper layer; long illusion sleeves extend the pattern, while a sweetheart shape remains visible beneath.
Both bring attention upward, but Ricci relies on a smooth continuous cloth while Bernarda uses layered transparency. The difference continues below the neckline: Bernarda’s narrow base dress can gain volume through a separate satin overskirt.
Related upper lines
A bateau neckline runs wide and shallow across the collarbone. Illusion-neckline wedding dresses use sheer material for apparent coverage; they need not all rise to the same height.
